‘Climate change is the major challenge facing the world’

David Attenborough has experienced the vast richness of the world’s ecological environments far more than most. So it may have come as a surprise that he remained fairly mute on the subject of climate change and global warming for so long; but his initial silence shows great responsibility as his voice alone adds incredible weight to any argument.  Without it, funding for proper research would not be so readily available.

As of 2006 his views on global warming are now concrete and eloquently put forward in the video below.

in an article in the Independent David goes on to say

“Climate change is the major challenge facing the world”

“ I was sceptical about climate change. But I am no longer sceptical. Now I do not have any doubt at all. I think climate change is the major challenge facing the world.

I am 80 now. I recognise that the world has always changed. I know that. But the point is, it’s changing more extremely and swiftly than any time in the past several million years.

And one of the things I don’t want to do is look at my grandchildren and hear them say: ‘Grandfather, you knew it was happening – and you did nothing’ “
