The 2nd Annual Duck Race
Saturday May 23rd - Carding Mill Valley from 11.00am
We must be Quackers, but we’re doing it again - and the 2nd Annual Duck Race is going to be even bigger and better than last year! Local firms are fighting for the chance to sponsor one of the races and already several ducks have been seen engaged in intensive training at high altitude in preparation.
Security has been stepped up following last year’s attempted kidnap of one of the contestants by a dissident environmental group (believed to call itself the Real Stretton Climate Care), and inevitably there have been calls for compulsory drug testing of the winning entrants.
Despite these complications, the organisers are confident that the event will break all records - provided the weather is wet enough before the event and dry enough on the day. Race commentator Jamie Wrench says “If the stream dries up we could be in some difficulty - and let’s face it, with climate change meaning drier summers this event may not run as long as the Boat Race - but there are things we could do in an emergency.”
He refused to be drawn on what might be contemplated but locals have remarked that there is a reservoir above the valley…
Races will start opposite the National Trust’s chalet pavilion from 11.00 am. Entry is 50p per Duck, and there are prizes for first, second, third - and last; because, after all, it’s not the winning, it’s the taking part that counts..

Hi - looking forward to the 3rd Duck Race - but is it for anyone to enter or only local companies? I am coming with some friends that weekend, it would be fun to join in but sounds like that would not be possible?
Please advise!
You and your friends will be welcome and can of course enter a duck or as many as you like - it’s only the races that are sponsored. Each race has fifty entrants and we manage to get about eight in before everyone’s too exhausted to go on - Ed
