Local Author Launches A - Z of Climate Change
People enter the Co-op at an average speed of six miles an hour - or so it seemed on Saturday - and at that speed it was easy to miss the SCC stand with its amazingly cool jewellery and even more amazingly cool publication of our very own Jon Cooke’s blockbuster ‘The A-Z of Climate Change’.
Unlike the mass of earnest, nerdy academic or just plain weird books appearing on the subject, Jon’s book avoids the graphs, the research data and the scare stuff and instead tries to provide answers to the many questions people ask about climate change and what they can do to make a difference.
“Much of what we need to do is not about high tech science solutions or making a large capital outlay, “ says Jon – “it is just as much about being aware of the consequences of our actions and making small adjustments to our life styles.”
So there. One small adjustment to your lifestyle would be to go to Burway books, shell out £6.99 and get your own copy. Or order one from us here. Almost any of the suggestions in the book are bound to save you more than that within a year.
Which is a good thing because you can then count it towards your 10:10 target! (note the seamless link!). Everyone - well not everyone but almost everyone - including Stretton Town Council - is signing up to 10:10 and pledging to cut their pollution profile by 10% by the end of this year. We, however, may not exactly have helped by choosing to be pictured outside the Co-op right under the sensors that kept opening the doors and letting in the cold… Aah, c’mon. Nobody’s perfect.
